Shelley

Shelley (she/her) holds a Bachelor of Education through the University of Alberta, a Diploma of Inclusive Education from Athabasca University and a Professional Master of Education focusing on Indigenous Education through Queens University.

Shelley has 24 years of teacher leader experience, teaching grade 2-9 in all subject areas, Learning Support Lead Teacher, School Counsellor, Vice Principal, Principal, and Director in a rural public education jurisdiction in Alberta. Her most recent experience is leading a multidisciplinary team delivering learning supports, counselling and wellness, and therapeutic services for students Pre-Kindergarten through grade 12 as well as supporting transitions to adulthood. Her passion is supporting students to participate in learning that brings them a sense of self, accomplishment, and joy! A collaborative, student-centred leader, Shelley values listening, trust, and partnership with students to create safe, inclusive, and caring environments for collaboration and learning. She believes that when students are supported and empowered, they thrive. Her leadership is grounded in equity, compassion, and a strong commitment to personal growth and enjoying the learning journey.

Based in rural Alberta, close to Edmonton, and parenting a college age student and a high school aged student, both with disability related learning challenges, she brings a lived and unique experience professionally and personally. Shelley is passionate about young people accessing opportunities and learning by understanding their learning strengths and profiles, building confidence and independence in learning and in life.
