Assistive Technology (AT) includes any item, piece of equipment, system, or program that helps post-secondary students overcome barriers to learning. AT can support reading, writing, note-taking, studying, communication, and organization, enabling students to engage more fully with their coursework.
At MyLearningCoach, we provide Assistive Technology (AT) consultations and coaching support tailored to each student’s unique needs. We work collaboratively with students to examine learning challenges, explore low, mid, and high-level AT options, and select the tools that will best facilitate learning. Our team also provides guidance on how to use these tools effectively with course materials, assignments, and study routines.
We understand that funding can be a barrier to accessing AT. That’s why we support students in applying for funding to cover the cost of recommended tools. Many Assistive Technology solutions are covered by the Canada Student Grant for Services and Equipment (CSG-DSE).
To ensure students can access AT resources in a timely way, we work closely with post-secondary accessibility offices, accessibility professionals, and AT vendors. This collaboration provides students with an additional pathway for individualized support that complements the resources already available on campus, helping them maximize their academic success and independence.
Reading course material: using text-to-speech software and screen readers to access textbooks and articles
Writing papers and assignments: applying dictation tools, grammar supports, and organizational apps to strengthen written work
Note-taking: capturing information with digital note-taking tools, smart pens, or mind-mapping apps
Lecture review: recording lectures and seminars for replay and study at your own pace
Organization: managing coursework with task managers, scheduling apps, and reminders
Studying effectively: using flashcard apps, annotation tools, and summarization software to reinforce learning
Focus and concentration: supporting attention with distraction-blocking apps and adaptive timers
Accessing visual content: using screen magnifiers, braille displays, or captioning tools
Communication: enhancing interaction with speech-to-text apps and alternative input devices
Assistive Technology Support can be accessed on its own or as part of our Academic Coaching Services, giving students flexible pathways to develop the tools and strategies they need to succeed.

Students with permanent disabilities may be eligible for either the Canada Student Grant for Students with Disabilities (CSG-D) or the Canada Student Grant for Services and Equipment (CSG-DSE). Each grant is designed to provide financial support tailored to different needs. Read more or reach out to learn more about eligibility and application details.
Yes, eligible students can receive funding from both grants. The Canada Student Grant for Students with Disabilities (CSG-D) currently provides students with $2800 per academic year, while the Canada Student Grant for Services and Equipment (CSG-DSE) covers the cost of specific tools or services needed for academic success. MyLearningCoach helps students understand how these grants can work together to provide comprehensive support.
The Canada Student Grant for Services and Equipment (CSG-DSE) offers up to $20,000 per academic year. The exact amount depends on the student’s documented needs for services and equipment.
This grant is one of the most comprehensive funding options for academic supports, and MyLearningCoach works with students, and the accessibility office at the school they attend, to identify and request the services they need.

Eligible students can receive $2,800 per academic year through the Canada Student Grant for Students with Disabilities (CSG-D). Students with disabilities typically access this grant each year that they are accessing provincial or territorial student aid funding.
