Some examples of common disabilities or medical for which post-secondary students reach out for accommodations and support vary on the individual. We see a lot of students who experience barriers related to ADHD, Anxiety or Depression or Trauma. Learning Disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, mobility or mental health disorders, visual or hearing impairments. We have students who experience barriers related to developmental disorders or brain injuries/ post-concussion syndrome. Students who experience barriers related to their executive functioning, processing speed, memory, focus or concentration often have a disability or medical condition that would qualify for them to access support.
MyLearningCoach is a collective of educational professionals who have come together to increase access for post-secondary students. We believe collaboration is key to success and thus, we work collaboratively with various professional orgnizations to ensure students can access the support needed. If you are involved in an organization that would like to partner and collaborate with us, please reach out.
At MyLearningCoach we specialize in post-secondary accessibility. We aim, as always, to work collaboratively with the post-secondary accessibility offices, at the schools students attend, to ensure students feel fully supported with their learning. We do support students to advocate for their learning needs and can help students to understand what accommodations and supports might be helpful for them.
Yes. MyLearningCoach works collaboratively with many post-secondary accessibility offices. We are here as an additional support to post-secondary students and aim to work as trusted partners with post-secondary schools. Many post-secondary accessibility offices refer students to MyLearningCoach directly.
Working collaboratively with post-secondary accessibility professionals helps to ensure full access for students.
Why should I work with MyLearningCoach? Because we provide access to financial support. We realize finances are often a barrier preventing students from accessing necessary support. To mitigate this barrier, MyLearningCoach works collaboratively with many post-secondary accessibility offices to support eligible students to access the Canada Student Grant for Students with Disabilities and the Canada Student Grant for Services and Equipment. These grants cover the cost of MyLearningCoach services. We also recognize students require timely support, so we offer delayed payment options so students can access support with us now and pay for the service once they receive their disability grant funding.
Why should I work with MyLearningCoach? Because we collaborate! Collaboration in education is important. We collaborate with students to determine the support they need, and we collaborate within the MyLearningCoach team to ensure students have full access to the agreed-upon supports. Such collaboration could involve arranging assistive technology consultations and training sessions, referrals to psychologists for various educational assessments, and collaborative conversations with learning coaches to ensure students have the support they need. We also work collaboratively with many post-secondary accessibility professionals and provincial funders (such as Alberta Student Aid and Saskatchewan Aid). To ensure students are fully supported in the ways that they require, collaboration is key. We’re here for you!
