Kathryn

BA, MA, PhD

Learning Coach

Kathryn holds a B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics and Discourse Studies, as well as a Certification in Teaching English as a Second Language (CTESL). She is a subject-matter expert in genre studies and academic writing, and has worked in a variety of educational roles— including teaching assistant, course instructor, and writing consultant—throughout her academic career.

Across these roles, Kathryn has been a strong advocate for inclusion, accessibility, and learning environments that honour diverse ways of thinking and being. Central to her teaching philosophy is the commitment to listen first: understanding directly from students what supports their success and what motivates them. She continually expands her toolkit of learning strategies to meet the unique needs of the students she works with.

Drawing from her own experiences navigating barriers related to a learning disability and anxiety, Kathryn brings empathy, insight, and a lifelong love of learning to her work. She is dedicated to helping students discover their strengths—and to finding the excitement and joy in learning that is possible for everyone.
