LEARNING COACH
Gerri has a Bachelor of Education from Brandon University and a Master of Education in Deaf Education from the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Alberta. She has enjoyed 30 years of working in the Deaf community and within public education to support students in their educational journey starting from preschool to university and work settings. Gerri is fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) and continues to enjoy participating in Deaf events within the community. She has experience working as a teacher, guidance counsellor, work experience coordinator, department head of student services and is currently a consultant for D/deaf and Hard of Hearing students.
Over the years, Gerri has found that encouraging students to develop an awareness of how they learn best and helping them to find strategies that meet their learning needs develops very successful self-advocates.
In Gerri’s spare time, she enjoys spending time outdoors participating in activities including biking, kayaking and cross-country skiing.
